Description

Born in 470 BC in Athens, Socrates is considered one of the greatest among the history of western philosophical thinking. He met philosopher Archelaos at the age of 17 and was convinced to dedicate his life to philosophy. He never taught in an academy or took any money to teach. All the works we have about the teaching of this great philosopher come from his disciples, first and foremost Plato, as he did not leave any written work behind.
It was he who brought man to the center of philosophical thinking and morality and self-control become the purpose of his life and introduced the Socratic method. In 399 BC in a parody trial, he was sentenced to death, a penalty that he could have avoided as his wealthy disciples were willing to bribe the jailer and flee him to another city. But he himself remained faithful to the Athenian and his moral laws.
